The Etiquette of Gambling

The Etiquette of Gambling

In every Casino be it online or live there's an unwritten, unspoken code of gambling etiquette that should be adhered to at all times.  The result from deviating from said Code can result in considerable harm, both physically, but most importantly KARMAcly.  However you look at it, it's all bad.

The same way you'd refrain from kicking up your shoes on someone's coffee table when invited over, wait patiently for all to be served before starting to eat your meal, chew quietly with mouth closed so as not to share the inner workings of your tonsils with the rest of the guests, are the very same rules of etiquette that aptly apply to the Casino.  Why? Cuz that's what civilized people do and in the world of gambling.

Regardless of the game, the Code of Gambling Etiquette is not exclusive to the patrons alone.  It applies to Dealers as well.  There's Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, worse than a Dealer who actually giggles out loud or shows any amount of pleasure at your loss.  To bust in blackjack when you've got mad chips stacked behind your hand is an outcome all too common.  After all, the House is the House for a reason.  But for a Dealer to actually enjoy a chuckle when some nasty card of fate has befallen the table is beyond acceptable, it's beyond rude, and quite frankly it's the biggest insult one can inflict upon a patron.  In my opinion, it's worthy of immediate ejection from all Casino premises!!

Sadly, no casino is immune to the travesties of Gambling Etiquette but one incident in particular is forever branded in my memory.  The faux pas, to put it mildly, occurred at a craps table in Caesar's Palace, Vegas.  Now the Craps table is a table to be respected.  You, as a patron, are not entitled to just bulldoze your way in and take over.  There are a lot of hopes and dreams riding on it and the Players surrounding its circumfrance are in no mood for some fool to jump in, drop their $10 bet down and proceed to spread their arms wide while a Shooter is in mid shoot.  Such actions can and, all too often will, catastrophically alter the path of Lady Luck or Lady Skill, depending on your school of thought.  I've witnessed it happen more times than I care to count.  In barges some big loud guy, who hasn't got a clue and proceeds to perform that very move.  In seconds the table's staring at 7 and everyone's a loser.  I always wonder if that guy possesses some form of life insurance, cuz you can be sure, there's someone who's just lost a bundle on account of HIM and might feel the need to express that loss on his face in the form of his fist!

On this particular craps table, the etiquette among the Players was squarely intact.  Beginners were mingling with veterans and all were adhering to a proper code of conduct.  No sudden movements, the vibe was good and as a result, the table was warming up.  Now when you got a Shooter, who's on a roll, you don't mess with their karma.  You quietly place your bet in the allotted time frame and let it roll.  Now as every crap player knows, when things get hot, its hard to turn down the heat.  That's what makes it so exciting.  The chips start stacking, people start making mad bets and the anticipation just builds to a crazy crescendo.  Eventually, as everyone knows and accepts, it can't last forever and unfortunately all good things, as they say, must come to an end.  But on this particular session the Shooter was going for Gold.  His caution compass was out the window and he had a lot of money riding on a lot of numbers.  Without warning, one careless move on the part of the DEALER ensued and the luck of the table began to unravel.  The Dealer wasn't paying attention and messed up during his passing of the dice.  He gave the Shooter a different set of dice and rather than humbly apologize for the mishap, he proceeded to get cocky and smart-mouth our Shooter.  The momentum of the roll got delayed due to the mounting aggro being expressed back and forth by the Shooter and his fans and the Dealer, and before you could say "Karma" it all started to turn.  Tension and Shooting do not a winning roll make. Well, to no one's surprise, he craps out and everyone's just lost a bundle.

Sure it sucks and this is the risk you take when you sign on.  But then the unthinkable happened.  The Dealer unleashes a hearty guffaw at the table's expense.  Now this expression of joy was not only an insult to the Shooter but the entire table!  You can imagine the hell that broke loose.  Why? cuz gamblers hate to lose but hate it even more when the etiquette of gambling is breached in such an offensive way.  Obviously, the odds are in favour of the House and the Dealers work for the House.  But to openly applaud the House's win, thus scoffing at the loss suffered by those around the table, was an etiquette infraction of EPIC proportions.  The Dealers know their role.  They're there to give you props when you win and show remorse, or at least a modicum of respect, when you lose.  Anything short of that, is a breach of Gambling Etiquette and should be dealt with in the harshest terms possible!!!!!!
That's why one should try online gambling.
