Anyone who loves to "play" knows what it's like to get that strange feeling in the pit of their stomach or deep inside their head, a feeling difficult to describe, when they're just about to place that bet down just before the dice are rolled or shortly after the hand has been dealt.
Is it a "vision", a "sign", some divine intervention? Its origin is unknown. But when it hits you, it defies all logic and rationale. It's something deep within you that screams Double Down, do a World Bet, go All In, or play your lucky number. Some would argue that this "feeling in the gut" is bogus, and just a giant dose of sour grapes at having missed the moment, when your luck, your destiny, has forever passed. But being a seasoned gambler, I've yet to meet a player, serious or recreational, who hasn't experience that mysterious "feeling in the gut" and either listened to it, or worse, second guessed it and ignored it. Everyone knows that once caution takes hold and you second guess it, it's all over.
There's no Re-take, no Re-roll, no Re-verse. It's gone and there ain't nothin' you can do about it. Often, that almost inperceptible moan or gasp, or worse, that shriek of anger and frustration is released from that person who just can't contain themselves cuz they know they blew it.
They ignored The Gut. Other times the body language will say it all. The wind's just been knocked out of 'em, the head lowers, the shoulders slump, the eyelids close. You know they're asking themselves, Why, Why, Why didn't I listen to my gut??? Sure, "Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda" is the phrase of the day, but that's not news...it's the Gambler's Blues.
